Seaborgium<\/b>\u00a0ist eine\u00a0synthetic<\/a>\u00a0chemical element<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0symbol<\/a>\u00a0Sg<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0atomic number<\/a>\u00a0106. It is named after the American\u00a0nuclear chemist<\/a>\u00a0Glenn T. Seaborg<\/a>. As a\u00a0synthetic element<\/a>, it can be created in a laboratory but is not found in nature. It is also\u00a0radioactive<\/a>; the most stable known\u00a0isotope<\/a>,\u00a0269<\/sup>Sg, has a\u00a0half-life<\/a>\u00a0of approximately 14\u00a0minutes.<\/sup><\/p>\n In the\u00a0periodic table<\/a>\u00a0of the elements, it is a\u00a0d-block<\/a>\u00a0transactinide element<\/a>. It is a member of the\u00a07th period<\/a>\u00a0and belongs to the\u00a0group 6 elements<\/a>\u00a0as the fourth member of the 6d series of\u00a0transition metals<\/a>. Chemistry experiments have confirmed that seaborgium behaves as the heavier\u00a0homologue<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0tungsten<\/a>\u00a0in group 6. The chemical properties of seaborgium are characterized only partly, but they compare well with the chemistry of the other group 6 elements.<\/p>\n In 1974, a few atoms of seaborgium were produced in laboratories in the\u00a0Soviet Union<\/a>\u00a0and in the United States. The priority of the discovery and therefore the\u00a0naming of the element was disputed<\/a>\u00a0between Soviet and American scientists, and it was not until 1997 that\u00a0International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry<\/a>\u00a0(IUPAC) established seaborgium as the official name for the element.
