Fluorine salts, known as fluorides, were used for centuries in welding metals and for frosting glass before the element itself was isolated. Fluorine gas is the most reactive of all the elements and quickly attacks all metals - steel wool bursts into flames when exposed to it! Fluorine is used to make uranium hexafluoride, needed by the nuclear power industry, and sulfur hexafluoride insulating gas for high-power electricity transformers, and to treat polythene to make it impermeable to solvents. Fluoride is an essential ion for animals, strengthening teeth and bones. It is added to drinking water in some areas and to toothpaste. The average human body contains about 3 milligrams; too much fluoride is toxic.

The Sensation! Acrylic Element-blocks NEW!

Fluorine - Fluorite sample in ampoule. Amount ~2 grams. Currently it is not possible to produce ampoules containing pure Fluorine which can be safely stored over several years. As replacement we used black Fluorite/Fluorospar also called 'stink spar' in German this is because of the strong smell of this mineral when rubbing pieces against each other or breaking them up.

Black flourite originates from other fluorite forms in presence of radioactivity (from uranium- or other radioactive minerals) over a long period. I brought this mineral from a closed uranium mine in Argentine where lots of Fluorites of different colours can be found.

The innovation! Selected element samples in amply amount embedded in 50x50x50mm first-class crystal clear acrylic (not cheap resin!) . Totally lightfast, high gloss polish. The text is embedded inside! Hand crafted! Made in the European Union! Each acrylic block is a unique and individual piece! EXTREMELY eye-catching!

These original acrylic cubes are used in many important and famous periodic table collections allover the world!

100% Handmade in the European Union!

Each cube comes in its separate original box!
